I’m going to be frank here, because we’re all grown ups. The sixth applicant above is superior to the others. Yes, he’s sowed his oats, but that doesn’t mean he’d not make a an excellent accounting manager. Now, if he were running for the office of pastor… I’d definitely not vote for him.
Also, let’s consider King David. David had multiple wives, hand an affair, even had a man KILLED to cover up the affair. Yet he was the greatest King Israel ever had. He wrote many of the Psalms we cherish. Now, let’s think about his private life for a moment. Do you realize that David may have written one Psalm after sleeping with a different woman from the woman he slept with before the previous Psalm he wrote? And consider the Psalms written after David committed both adultery and murder. These Psalms are HOLY SCRIPTURE. It’s obvious that God Himself forgave David, and seeing David’s excellent abilities, chose to continue using David as King. God could have had David replaced easily. We don’t see Saul having a propensity for sexual sin beyond his polygamy… but he was a TERRIBLE leader and God replaced him.
If a man who was both an adulterer and murderer ran for the White House, would you vote for him? Maybe not… but if he were David, God would choose to use him.
When I was in the Army, I had a section sergeant who was a “dog”. This man cheated on his wife and had an ongoing affair. But his abilities and leadership as an NCO were second to none. I also know of another NCO who was a very faithful man with regards to his marriage… but the guy couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag or make a single good decision! We'd groan with dread when he was in charge. Who would you want leading you in a dangerous military operation if your choice was between these two guys?

Newt’s indiscretions are not hidden. They are out in the open, he owns them, and has repented of them. Perry and others stand to have past indiscretions revealed during the general election, derailing their ability to beat Obama. Just look at what's happened to Herman Cain. What will you think of Perry if his private dirt is just as ugly as the next guy's?
I used to think about the GOP that way too. The GOP isn’t a church. Ditch the “churchthink”. It’s a political party. And yes, it addresses social issues that are important to conservatives… BUT it’s not a moral religious body. Many atheists, gays, pagans, Muslims, Hindus, dope smokers, etc. proudly call themselves Republican. We’re voting for a leader…not a pastor. Therefore the very notion of holding the GOP to a higher standard is a bit silly if you think about it. We’re talking politics, not church. We’re talking political leadership, not the pastorate. The most conservative and unbending candidate is Ron Paul. But he’d be a disaster that would take American down an isolationist dead end. Clearly Gingrich is a man who has vision and KNOWS what he’s doing.
Again, you talk about the GOP like it’s a church. The GOP is a political party. Hey…they even have registered constituents who are gay business owners. One of the biggest supporters of the GOP I’ve known was ran an adult bookstore. Why did they support the GOP? The GOP looked out for their interests as a small business. Lol
These are politicians. Do you REALLY think we have a single one of them that isn’t a liar, hasn’t taken money they shouldn’t, caved to a lobby, and have been guilty of some private indiscretion? Please.
We need a leader. Newt isn’t perfect. But here’s what I like about him… he’s intelligent, has great policy ideas, knows how to lead, knows how Congress works, and frankly concerning his past…he’s real and we know the dirt.
Ultimately, these guys don't have the Holy Ghost. So they are all unregenerate sinners. We're voting on a President, not a pastor. I'm sure if we knew all the dirt about our beloved Founding Fathers we'd be shocked. Guess what... human beings sin. Even the best of leaders. Consider King David.
