Re: Which Movie Is Better?

Hmmm, I have to disagree with you. I have a physical infirmity (muscular) that God has said that He will not heal. I have and will continue to live my life with it because of Adam's sin. Sin has had long term consequences for all of us. There are billions who are dead because of sin, and should the Lord tarry, trillions more will die.

Neither is appropriate for young children, because their values and maturity is not far enough along.
Grand Torino is one of the best movies I've seen. The language in the movie was pretty bad but the message and overall theme was so good that I actually felt good after watching it.

Someone missed the word LONGTERM. You see, even the little mermaid was imprisioned for a while to the evil witch (a temporary consequence for her mistake). So yes both humans and the little mermaid often have temporary consequences for their actions.

Re: Which Movie Is Better?

I would say that the consequences of sin are incredibly long term. In fact they are both final and fatal, which is not shown in that movie.

Because her savior saved her by taking her place!!! Our savior saved us by taking our place too ya know? And because of that even though we have made mistakes those consequences are not long term but short term. They are incredibly short term... only this lifetime and not all eternity.

Further, the consequences for the mermaids mistake were very long term in the movie. She was to belong to the evil witch forever... Thankfully she had a savior. Sounds kind of like us. We were to belong to Satan forever but thankfully we had a savior

Re: Which Movie Is Better?

As I said, I find drawing analogies from Hollywood is a far greater stretch than I care to attempt. Most people would not find the comparison in the movie.

Re: Which Movie Is Better?

I have a 7 y/o and 4 y/o. Since I'm 100% against foul language and rebellion, neither movie would be suitable. HOWEVER, to bring it down to a child's level, I would choose Little Mermaid since, as I said, it would be more to their level of understanding and not spew the foul language. They already hear enough of that outside the home as it is...

Someone mentioned Harry Potter. Both of my children love watchinig those, and my oldest has a full understanding of the moral of the story; the youngest loves watching it for all the action.

If we ever have any question about a movie prior to its release or before we take my girls to watch it, we generally pull up http://www.christiananswers.net/spotlight/ or http://www.pluggedin.com/; The first one is generally more detailed than the second and have found it to be very useful...

I was not interested in the Harry Potter movies until my son told me that they were similar to Lord of the Rings. So, we have started watching the series, will be on the third one next. The story lines are kind of predictable, but they are fun to watch. They have to watched as fantasy and not taken too seriously. The special effects and the creativity is awesome.
