Ultra Cons in Malawi

Those Ultra Cons are everywhere! Just read a news article where women in the country of Malawi who wear pants or mini skirts are being stripped and beaten by some men as punishment for not wearing traditional African garb.

Here is a link to the article. Could be inspirational for our ultra cons.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

LOL Point taken!

But.... I can't help but think that there are SOME in the UC movement who are not that far from doing exactly that which is portrayed in the news article, such is their zealousness to defend all things standard related.

Anybody remember that old message "trophy's from hell". Can't remember who preached it but I had the tape at one time. He stated in the message how that his mother had been persuaded to wear pants and makeup in her later years while on vacation with a backslidden relative, thus she became a trophy of the devil.

I heard that message referenced by a preacher in the Kansas district. He said that the man who preached that message soon after became a trophy of hell himself.

Did he say why? McNeely is bishop of a UPC in Seabrook, Tx. Maybe he went charismatic? purchased a tv? wore a colored shirt? To some folk, don't take much to become a trophy of hell.

Re: Ultra Cons in Malawi

I do not recall with specificity the comments that were made. I could have him confused with another individual, and if I do, I do not want to make a false statement concerning him.

It could also be that the two different messages with the same title were used, or one borrowed it from another. Things like this do happen.

The quote that I referenced was made nearly 15 years ago or so.

LOL!! So true. When I was a teenager in Louisiana I went to hear the Holland Trio sing at a church in our section. After the service I was talking with the pastors wife of the ultra con church that was in the same town that I went to church at and she said "it is such a shame to see that they (the Holland Trio) have gone worldly"

I couldn't imagine what she was talking about since the women in the trio looked regular UPC so I asked what she meant. She said "Oh didn't you see? They travel in a big bus now!". In her mind traveling in that bus made them worldly.
