Re: Common Myths about Gay Christians
If your friend is not living a gay lifestyle then he is not gay. He may have to struggle with homosexual proclivities, but that is no different than a straight man dealing with his proclivities. If he ever reverts to that lifestyle, then he will be more gay than he was before.
As for your statement about who Jesus would or would not associate with, I do not believe that He would 'hang out' in the Rainbow District of my city or any other ciity. However, He would interact with them, and try to lead them away from that lifestyle.
I know people who are drunkards, homesexual, fornicators, adulterers, etc. I have done my best to lead each and everyone to a place to hear what the Bible says. If at first I do not succeed, I try again. I am always looking and attempting to find an opening to witness to them about Jesus. I do not fear them, but neither am I going to play games to not offend their sensitivities. I have invited them to church banquets (trying to get them used to the fact that we are not all Westboro wingnuts), and other events. I have not had much success, but I keep praying that God will let me have their souls for His kingdom.
