My youngest son is 13. He has curly dark blond hair. He asked if we would let him grow it out to donate. after about 6 months of trying to decide how I felt about it I decided to let it happen. He now has hair that is about 8 or 9 inches long. Our pastor actually likes his hair and all the curl he has and has made comments on it. So I finally made mention of why his hair is getting longer and hasn't been cut yet and he actually thought that was a good thing my son was doing.
He has started to complain about how it gets in the way some times but that was part of my plan too. Let him grow it and be annoyed by it and he will WANT it short from now on.
He has to have at least a 10 inch ponytail before they will cut it to donate, and yes they do stretch out the curl to measure it. THANK GOD, or we would be FOREVER waiting for it to get long enough.
I know that when we go back to Ohio to visit in July there are going to be a lot of people think we have done stepped off the deep end when they see him.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Can I be the one to say that you're wrong for allowing this?
C'mon! Pick me, pick me!
I like telling people how they should raise their kids-- especially since I don't know your kid and have never raised any kids of my own up to this point in my life!

Wow. I'm impressed with his charitable endeavor. And kudos to you for being brave enough to let him--in spite of the potential for criticism! It says a lot about parents when their children are generous, charitable and selfless.

Reminds me of a story. I knew a gal who did this, and after she donated around 12" of hair, I told her she should call her mom and say "Guess what! I had a foot cut off today!"

Good for him! It is a wonderful thing for cancer patients to be able to get wigs that are made of high quality human hair and not hot synthetics.
I donated yesterday. I can do 10 inches a year since my hair grows at an astounding rate. When it falls in the toilet I know it's time. I am now a happy 'hippy' (hair to hips ).
You have an awesome son, of course he gets that from his MOM..............
