FTR, I think Romney strapping the family dog on top of their vehicle WAS stupid. Maybe not deliberately mean or cruel, but definitely stupid. It sounds like the kind of idea a MAN would have for taking an animal along on vacation.  Romney should have responded with, "I thought he would enjoy the ride, but it made the dog sick. Stupid decision on our [my?!!] part, but it's never happened again, and we LOVE our dog." End of story. ...instead of responding with something about Obama eating dog meat as a kid.

It's not even about him
not knowing it is offensive, it's about it
not being offensive in so many cultures. In some cultures it is much more offensive to eat a cow and, God forbid, a pig. There are actual Scriptures and edicts about eating pig. This would be somewhat akin to a kid spending time in America where he ate good, All-American steaks and having it used against him as a man in a country where beef is taboo. Not only is this not a story, I think it is bad strategy.
