The boy had zimmerman on the ground beating his head into the side walk. Multiple cuts, a broken nose, all backed up by the doctors reports.
Stand your ground law works in exactly cases like this, His back was to the ground This is self defense 101.

At 17, you're still a boy-- even a big boy, but still a boy.
No one has the right to harrass or assault-- and if a person is harrassed or assaulted, then the "Stand Your Ground" law would protect you. It is very possible that had Martin survived and zim had try to sue Martin for the injuries, then MARTIN would be the one protected by our "Stand Your Ground" law!
It may have ended with zim on the ground, but it doesn't mean that is how it started-- which is why Jeb Bush stated that the "Stand Your Ground" law that he signed is not applicable to zim's defense.
