If the man was a sexual offender, I can see that there was good reason the parents should be concerned. Not knowing all the circumstances of the story, hopefully he is a man trying to get his life back on track after a terrible mistake, and that the school has more insight into his situation than the parents. If the parents are so concerned, they should first have talked to the school officials about it, and perhaps getting more pertinent information rather than going to the media.
I don't see a problem as long as the school closely monitors him.

Awww come on brother ben...you are going to the extreme.
By closely monitoring, I mean that he has very little contact with the children. He knows that there are parents who object to him being there so he should protect himself and not find himself alone with any child lest he be accused of something.
I believe in restoration and second chances.

Judging him, I guess;
when "janitor" becomes
"trust this man with your kids?"
I see. Does God ever need our help? Should we not even care who hangs around our kids' schools and daycares? Not addressing this issue specifically, but other situations mainly, such as repeat sex offenders. Is it God's job to screen our baby sitters?
