Re: Texas Petition to Secede 60k sign Petition
Coming from a supporter of state government over federal government, meaning the state should have a lot less federal involvement in the way it governs itself. I have no problem with a state wanting to succeed. A coupla thoughts, far as I know there are no states officially wanting to succeed, these are unelected, common folk signing this petition. Signing the petition is a serious thing and should not be done just to make a point, signers of the petition are suggesting they want to give up their citizenship of the US. The states wanting to leaving the union would have to payback their share of the national debt, to refuse could lead to war. The states succeeding would have to have a way of defending itself, especially border states (national guard maybe?). They would have to have a strong economy by itself, natural resources, trade agreements, new currency, etc. There would be a lot to consider and doesn't look advantageous, maybe Texas could. Did I miss any thing?
