He told them what to teach and preach. This is known as THE APOSTLES DOCTRINE or Teaching. Why shouldn't it be important. It was JESUS' Teaching that HE PUT INTO His chosen Apostles. They were to pass it on. That same teaching came to our family in 1933, from an old white-haired preacher who came to my paternal grandmother and her son (my late father). It was searched out in scripture, BELIEVED (faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of GOD), OBEYED and RECEIVED and has/is being passed on to the 6th generation. OH, How I thank GOD for the message of Apostolic salvation. The Blessings have been, and continue to be, that which money cannot buy! What a treasure it is. TOO many today have been short-changed concerning this Wonderful message. The Message in Acts 2. Perhaps it has been HIDDEN from the so-called wise and prudant, but REVEALED to babes. (Those who came to HIM as a little child).

"The Message in
Acts 2" was Peter preaching Christ unto them. Read the whole chapter not just verse 38. And read the whole book of Acts, not just chapter 2. There are 19 accounts of conversions recorded in Acts. Five of those conversions include the "formula" (I don't believe salvation is a formula but I know the jargon) of
Acts 2:38. Yet in 100% of the accounts repentance/faith/belief is always present. If
Acts 2:38, the way you interpret it, was the apostles doctrine, why doesn't Paul communicate it that way to the Philippian jailor in
Acts 16? Why isn't it communicated that way in all 19 recorded cases of conversions? Why don't the apostles who wrote the epistles mention it as Peter stated it ONCE in any of their letters to the early church? Why do we find repentance/faith/belief communicate ALL OVER the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, but a few bits and pieces of scripture to make the case for a OP doctrine of salvation?
Trying to rightly divide the Word is not being "wise and prudent" in the sense Jesus used that phraseology. He used that language referring to Pharisees who were blind to WHO HE WAS. You know the Pharisees who were strict, conservative and disciplined---more consecrated than everyone else, judging everyone else, more holy than everyone else. They missed the truth of Christ because they ere so focused on how right they were, how special they were and how many generations back they went of being right, while the rest of the world was wrong.
I don't believe for a second that the apostles were consumed with their identity being each other. They were possessed with "Christ and Him crucified." Jesus was the center of their teaching and preaching, not some "formula".
