So Bro. Sam are you saying that it was man made rules and no scriptures to back it? I understand that completely as I was taught a lot of things that had no scripture backing either. I still don't do 99% of what I was taught against but I don't criticize others. Thank you for clearing that up for me. We really can't preach against something if we don't have scripture to back it. That would adding to the Word. I always enjoy your posts as you always say everything with the Love of God. GOD BLESS.
To answer your original question, there most certainly is scripture against facial hair (and almost anything else). It is "Obey them that have the rule over you" followed closely by "Touch not mine anointed". In other words anything that isn't IN the Word directly but is taught over the pulpit falls under those two catch-all versus.
Sis. Alvear- you always seem to have a word fitly spoken in due season!
She is just a soft liberal in disguise!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

that's sorta like the Romish dogma of papal infallibility and the idea that that there is no salvation without a local priest to forgive your sins
I don't know Bro Hendricks from Adam. What I have heard form good sources is that said church has been basically run by 2-3 seperate boards who control everythign and the Pastor, even Bro Sizemore when he was there, had nothing but constant problems dealing with those boards wanting to dominate. My Pastor used to preach for Bro Sizemore and told me that Bro Sizemore would often write him a personal check becuase the "church financial board" would only approve so little to pay the evangelist that it was embarassing.
Bro Hendricks put up with that nonsense a lot longer than my Pastor and many others thought he would. At some point many years ago Bro Sizemore should have simply put his foot down and broken the control of a bunch of boards even if it meant running them off. I'm a firm believer in boards and oversight and I'm opposed to the "one man show" of single Pastor rule, but you also can't have boards running rampant and controlling everything. I like the "elder rule" model rather than a board of carnal or self righteous busybodies running things. Men of God should be in the lead.
I know this has been an issue for the UPC and similiar organizations for a long time but I need to ask a question (I am not UPC) and please I just ask for the scripture reference not anyone's opinion - I repeat - scripture reference concerning a beard or mustache. One of my family members is in UPC or similiar organization and got all bent out of shape because someone they know was growing a beard. The only reason I am asking this on this thread is because others have brought it up about the beard. I knew once a link was provided with a picture, the facial hair would become a "topic". I do not know any of these people and have not been to the listed churches but just want to know the scripture references only. Thank you so much. I enjoy reading the forum and very seldom ever post and it would never be conturverisal. I don't like it when people become hateful or criticize others. The fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, JOY, PEACE AND ...
As far as I can tell, there's no scripture against facial hair. Maybe just the opposite.
We use to know SH when he was a teenager. He was a very sweet kid! I think my son still keeps in touch with him.
