"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

My brain is slower than my typing, and I can only type about 15 words per minute!

That part about pastors thinking "it cannot happen to them", really hits home. Because they have to counsel people all the time who have fallen into sin...and probably hear the response all the time...."BUT I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD HAPPEN TO ME"!

Then THEY find out it has happened to them! And what is the response? Usually the same."BUT I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD HAPPEN TO ME"!

It is as sad as a drunk saying they are not an alcoholic! They refuse to get help...because....everyone ELSE can be a drunk...except them! They are too "strong willed" for that!

A lot of pastors think along on those same lines and it is sad to see them when they hit rock bottom, because they usually take a lot of people down with them. Usually innocent people who had absolutely nothing to do with their sin, but yet are caught in the aftermath.

We as Christians need to learn and learn well from this and other episodes of people falling into sin that...NO ONE is beyond temptation and falling...NO ONE!

If the Devil tempted Christ....do we actually think he is going to leave us alone? If we do, we may have another thing coming.

1 Peter 5:8

King James Version (KJV)

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

I don't read ANYWHERE where that scripture (Or the bible for that matter) talked about if you hold a position in the church that you are immune to temptation.

Got news for you...we all are!

1 Corinthians 10:12

King James Version (KJV)

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

This video and song by casting crowns really hits home on this topic...

Re: Prominent Memphis Area Pastor Resigns

I have heard from several sources that the salaries of several church employees at TPC were quite high. Church possibly paying for their homes as well? Anyone know any more about this, I assume it would be the Church Secretary, Music Minister. What do you think is a reasonable amount to be paid for these positions as well as others in a church this size?

Re: Prominent Memphis Area Pastor Resigns

Its interesting how people are so quick to type their opinions on forums such as this. You haven't seen my checkbook and don't know what business of mine it is to ask this question. If the information was available where it should be, I would not be asking this question here. I appreciate your concern in this matter. I could say a lot more but, for the sake of not being "freaky" I will stop there.

I am glad you repented of being freaky!

FYI there is never a cause to ask that kind of question on the internet... in an open forum. I dont care where you write your checks.

No one is making you stay here and read this! You may have a right to voice your opinion, but so do I.

You do NOT have the right to tell people to quit posting on a topic simply because it is something you or tv1a or whoever does not like the topic being discussed!

Why don't you go away if it offends you so much?
