That part about pastors thinking "it cannot happen to them", really hits home. Because they have to counsel people all the time who have fallen into sin...and probably hear the response all the time...."BUT I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD HAPPEN TO ME"!
Then THEY find out it has happened to them! And what is the response? Usually the same."BUT I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD HAPPEN TO ME"!
It is as sad as a drunk saying they are not an alcoholic! They refuse to get help...because....everyone ELSE can be a drunk...except them! They are too "strong willed" for that!
A lot of pastors think along on those same lines and it is sad to see them when they hit rock bottom, because they usually take a lot of people down with them. Usually innocent people who had absolutely nothing to do with their sin, but yet are caught in the aftermath.
We as Christians need to learn and learn well from this and other episodes of people falling into sin that...NO ONE is beyond temptation and falling...NO ONE!
If the Devil tempted Christ....do we actually think he is going to leave us alone? If we do, we may have another thing coming.
1 Peter 5:8
King James Version (KJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
I don't read ANYWHERE where that scripture (Or the bible for that matter) talked about if you hold a position in the church that you are immune to temptation.
Got news for you...we all are!
1 Corinthians 10:12
King James Version (KJV)
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
This video and song by casting crowns really hits home on this topic...
