Re: Dropped By & Somewhat Dismayed But Not Surpris

I have been away from the computer for a few hours and have enjoyed catching up on this thread. Some great discussion in it.

Even though I believe Ron is dead wrong in his take on this it is good to see him posting and bringing some articulate discussion to the table.

The premise of Ron's objection to a preacher caught in moral failure being discussed is the scriptures detailing how such a person should be treated in their church.

It is clear those instructions were given for dealing with a person's specific situation by the church he was associated with. By church I don't think it means a specific congregation but it could be that or even a regional or wider covering he might be subject to.

However those instructions were regarding determining the sinful persons status. They were to be given a course of action to make things right then if they did not follow that they were to be cast out of the church.

Nowhere do I see instructions for the "church" outside of that person's immediate congregation not to discuss the situation or be made aware of it.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Dropped By & Somewhat Dismayed But Not Surpris

Never said that anybody gets a free pass to gossip. TB put himself in the world's limelight when he chose to do the things he did.

But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.
(Numbers 32:23)

I'm just saying that the church is no better than the minister who leads it. Just saying that we have a lot of gossip because the saints know that the ministers gossip. They protect themselves and their brothers, but unleash on the saints.
I've seen it with my own eyes that ministers, unless they hate each other as I have seen some here do, will likewise hide their fellow minister's sins from the saints and from the world.

But, the premise here is that there is a minister who treated some well...mistreated others while preaching against things that he was doing himself.

The mistreated people are not likely to forget that. Are they wrong? Perhaps. But I happen to believe that Christ did not mean for one man to rule over others. He said not to. The Proverb: Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
(Proverbs 11:14)

The christian church would be wise to dump the one pastor to one congregation model and start having established equal leaders of the people. This way they can have the accountability with each other that is so often discussed here.

Just sayin...

Wrong! There is a thing called Gossip & as well, there are systems to go through to deal with someone who has a situation.
Mathew 28:15-18 comes to mind as well as Acts 23:1-5
Give a clear response how we are to treat this.

it is either gossip or it isn't.
It isn't a situation where someone is half pregnent.
You either are or are not!

Re: Dropped By & Somewhat Dismayed But Not Surpris

As for Gossip--I'll let you in on a little secret. Here are some of the juicy bits we have talked about:

Different revivals
Trips to the Philippines for Crusades.
How many people have gotten the Holy Ghost lately.
(this one from visiting ministers) what they are doing in other congregations that are working & how it is going.

I must be in a different Church!
