Re: Coffee

All coffees are not created equal. Like chocolate, there is cheap coffee and indulgent coffee. I am very sensitive to caffeine, so I drink mostly decaf, but I LOVE a good frappucinno. Something about the ice and milk and other stuff offsets the caffeine and just creates a wonderfully indulgent drink!

As for coffee in sanctuaries, depends how much shockamooing the place allows.

I think a lot depends on the Sanctuary. If it is a traditional one with padded pews, nice carpeting, etc then from a practical standpoint I would say no.

In the case of my church our sanctuary is in what used to be a grocery store buliding and it is very simple with metal folding chairs, inexpensive carpeting, etc. In this case I think drinking coffee in the sanctuary is fine. Our coffee area is in a nook off to the side near the front of the sanctuary so from a practical standpoint of reducing distractions we have as part of our announcements on the video monitors not to get coffee once the lesson has started.

The previous church I attended also offered coffee from stations at the rear of the church and urged people to get theirs before at a break in the service. They had nice padded chairs but people were careful and I never saw a coffee accident.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I add so much stuff, it's almost not recognizable as coffee!

Re: Coffee

And I do not think it should be allowed in the sanctuary. We are there for a couple hours to worship - eat/drink before or after.

My "church" has two 20-minute breaks between periods, and they sell way more than just coffee in the "foyer".
