Re: What is up with the different spellings of Jes
Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Jesus Emmanuel Christ?

Because they feel like it. But some believe you are lost if you don't use His Aramaic name in prayer and baptism

No one on this Forum believes that. However most here do believe you can enter the kingdom of Heaven without overcoming sin! Wow!

I'm not sure where the idea came from, but in my study of languages one thing that was stressed is that names do not translate. Now, it may be that people in another land don't have the ability to speak certain sounds and a name may be pronounced slightly different due to accent/dialect, but every effort is made to preserve the pronunciation of names.

Yes if a language has the Hebrew sounds it is preferable to use them. English does. Thats why I use "Yeshua".
Are you saying he was called Jesus while he was here?

I'm saying he was called something that sounded similarly to Jesus, yes.

Proper names do NOT translate. You can read that in a blue million places. John is John wether in the US, Italy, Ukraine, etc.
