I teach on Grace regularly and incorporate Grace into MOST SS lessons.

Grace has always been a HUGE part of the message. I have heard it all my life.

I am a 5th generation Apostolic.

Get real.

  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Right, where have I posted that I said it is? Are we reading what we want to read?

I am only talking about MY experience which includes most of the decade of the 80's and my particular district, but having said that Grace was hardly ever mentioned and when it was it was always proceeded by caveats and modifiers such as "...and then you need to do this that and the other thing". Grace was a concept that many were actually frightened to bring up lest it take power away from them via the idea that it may make existing rules somewhat less burdensome or power away from the ruling class. In fact the word Grace has the same sort of "use with caution" approach that John 3:15 had.

I've talked to enough people since we left and firmly belief that Grace has taken a much bigger role in the UPC as a whole since then, which is a good thing, but also know their are pockets which haven't changed a bit.
