My dad in the past year has came to church with me ( he only has been to an apostolic church a handful of times) and when he comes he will put on his button up Hawaiian shirt. To him that is putting on his best cause he is a tshirt or tank top kinda guy.

The ONLY times I ever dress up (and by 'dress up' I am talking about full suit and tie and dress shoes) is 1) special banquets, 2) my wedding, 3) job interviews. And in those situations I am dressing to impress other people, not God. I would have gladly worn an Hawaiian shirt at my wedding.

Re: Hello, new here, and looking for some guidance
I've found I am many times closer to God just talking to Him while wearing nothing but my underwear.
I don't think God is impressed one whit by what folks wear to a building-based romanist 'church' system.

I can just see hometown guy at the sermon on the mount going around and checking to make sure no one is eating or drinking anything and that they have on their best clothes. LOL!!

I'm sorry you feel that way but when I got married 11years ago I wanted to dress my best. Cause I wanted everyone else to know that what I was doing was not a causal event and when I go to church I want to teach my kids that it is not a causal event that we are doing but it's something more.

Re: Hello, new here, and looking for some guidance
I wonder how many were dressed up for the "Sermon on The Mount." And what was Jesus thinking about when he took charge of the loaves and the fishes at one of His gatherings. Didn't he not know that you're not suppose to eat in church? Okay, so it wasn't in a building, but is the building what makes the church a church? Somewhere, at some time, we need to learn what the main things are, and simply work on keeping "the main things, the main things!"
And here comes another post, (probably by one of you....not me!) on what everyone thinks is "the main things!" How about this..... Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Re: Hello, new here, and looking for some guidance
We have an apostolic cowboy church in Apache Junction where the guys dress, you guessed it, in jeans, boots, and belts with huge buckles. The women look like they would be more at home on Little House on the Prairy than a typical OP setting. Occasionally, there are even horses tied up out front (but only part of the year because of the heat).
