We've had her since October of 2003. We estimate she was about 6 months old when she came to live with us. She showed up a stray. Strangely enough, she had a shaved belly and stitches like she had been fixed. She never had kittens, She was a prolific hunter. You name it, she brought it home on a regular basis. She was a tiny cat, but tough. She HATED other cats and would not tolerate one in her presence.
For the first few years she was an indoor/outdoor cat. She has been primarily an outdoor cat for the past three years, however. Last night she came in the house. We forgot she had come in when we went to bed . At around 2 AM she hopped in the bed with us. So I got up to let her out. Normally she runs to the door, but this time she just stood in the hallway and just stared at me. So I picked her up and set her down by the door. She did not hesitate to go out. She seemed fine, but had been losing weight lately. She did that last year but was fine after I wormed her.
Normally she's at the door yowling to be fed when I get up around 6AM, but today she did not show. That did not concern me greatly because she's pulled disappearing acts before. But today I found her around midday about 50 feet from the house. She was already stiff, but no ants had started eating her. There was no blood , animal tracks, or sign of struggle. My 7 year old is devastated. We just concluded the funeral. She will be hard to replace.

Think a snake got her?

I wondered about that. I saw no bite marks and it was kind of chilly here last night.
My dad has lost a couple of cats like that and he lives in a trailer in Marion county on Highway 42. I am sorry to hear that, pets are like family.
