Newman's contention with his view on "long hair" is that Sabellus used commentary that states, "It may be necessary to reach outside of the Greek to define long as uncut."

Newman questioned that if Paul was speaking to Greek people, why would he reach outside the Greek to do that. I have some of that conversation printed out.

I enjoyed the exchange between them both.

Re: RDP

I don't know where rdp lives, but has anyone heard if there were any tornadoes in his area last evening or last night? Hope his absence is not because of bad weather.

I never thought I would see Elder Epley sounding like a Democrat! Pulling that old strategy of believing that if you say something enough times, no matter how ridiculous it is, people will believe it!

As another person said in their reply to this post "scholarship" is NOT the word that comes to mind when thinking of RDP's posts.

The Newman statement is just mind boggling and in no way touches reality. There was a good discussion back then of two clearly differing view points but nobody ever "sent Newman packing for the hills".

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Who is this Newman person?

Certainly not this guy.

(I've been here several years and never heard of these debates everyone is talking about.)

Who hates truth? Probably nobody. Why would they? Even I don't hate truth!
