I think it is the same as some companies, that require dress requirements for their employees because that is how they want the public to see them.
I think to a certain degree this church is the same way. Back in the day it was taught as H and H issues, but as people became more educated and studies the scriptures themselves, they found errors in the teachings.
Nothing wrong with wanting to have a certain degree of conformity as long as it is reasonable. IMO
