30 And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?
31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.
When read in the context of the preceeding verse and the verse directly after the scripture in question it becomes clear that paul is not speaking in a spiritual sense but rather that he is pointing to the fact that he as a christian was laying his life on the line and willing to give up his life everyday. Another passage that brings this out is:
Romans 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
I used to believ that the passage in question taught that we were to die to flesh daily but when i began to look into that passage i saw that it did not support that thought process at all. Also why if i have died to my flesh why should i have to keep dying to it again and again every day? Does he resurrect every night while i sleep? I believe that it is more Biblical to say that you die to flesh once then by living a life of obedience the flesh is kept dead.
