Once you accept a world containing supernatural powers, anything goes and anything can be explained somehow or other. For example, per the above, did not Peter also "raise the dead" and was not Peter told by Jesus "Whosoever sins ye remit...." Apparently god can transfer his magical powers to whomever suits the purpose. Divinity not required.
