Most of Rev is written for the last days. Therefore, it is written for us. There are things in Rev. that are timeless. But for the most part, if you take Daniel, Matt. 24 and put it with Rev, you can see that we are living in the End-Time.
Who do you think Rev 1:3 was written to? What group of people, at what time?

Yes it is. I've never met a Christian who wasn't a picker and chooser and after picking and choosing, and adjusting scripture, will then forumlate a belief system. An example would be....

Luk 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

The passage is almost never picked in a Christian's list of favorite scriptures, usually many many others are a little more palatable. But Jesus is requiring something to be His disciple, without it you cannot be a disciple of Jesus. The commandment, the requirement to be His disciple is that you must hate your father, mother, wife, children, brethren and sisters, even your own life. That's plain, nothing ambigious about that.

If the scripture is brought up, because it's usually not picked as I said, there is a swift and immediate rewrite of the scripture. It doesn't mean what it says, what it REALLY means....and then they discard the word "hate" and insert whatever term is more acceptable.

Beware of what you read in the bible. It may not be accurate, it's only a translation of men from writings that do not exist.

Here's another that people hardly ever quote and when they do they immediately translate it in their minds. They say Jesus didn't mean his literal flesh and blood and he didn't literally mean forever, so basically people are constantly translating and interpreting the Bible and not necessarily taking it literally....unless they do.

Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Exactly. Does the bread and wine become flesh and blood or is it just symbolic? That should be a very very important question, having the same importance, if not more, than Acts 2:38 because Jesus Himself was speaking in the passage. Yet the passage which reference the body and blood of Jesus is pushed to a place of no discussion.

People could take the scripture "he that eateth of this bread shall live forever" (from the passage I quoted) and go on and on and on about how you must understand what this bread IS or how could you live forever?? and put a huge focus on this as being salvational for that reason. Churches and religions and denominations do this all the time and what you are taught when you are young or first saved is what you usually end up believing as truth.

Re: The Bible Is Secondary

I think what Seekerman is trying to say is could God speak to you outside of the Bible or even against something you believed the Bible to say when you know and we all know the Bible was written by men and translated by men? Does God Himself have sovereignty enough in your life to be enough as Himself? Is He able to speak to you outside of the book? Or must He always speak to you in a certain manner with certain thoughts and in certain ways because that is what you have been taught to be correct? Do your beliefs supersede God Himself?

If there is no standard of truth then how do inow what is true or not? If we all have personal revelations but have not standard of abssolute truth by which to compare them hen in essance we have made our selves God and have decided that we are able to dictate to our sleves what is right and what is wrong. Who are we to discard the Word of God for our own thoughts and feelings? It it iteresting to note that just as in the garden of eden the devil attacked the Word of God and He still does it today.

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Actually, Christians have taken certain scriptures in the bible and built their idea of a standard of truth around them. The problem with that is detrmining who's standard of truth is THE standard of truth. There are several thousand Christian sects, all who have varying standards of truth, in the world today. Which sect is it? Which sect teaches the correct standards? Is your standard of truth different from a roman catholic's standard of truth. How about the Baptists, the Presbyterians? You have yours, I have mine, they have theirs.

You'll find the standard of truth isn't standard at all.
