We went to a Chinese buffet Sunday and I only made 2 trips to the food bar, the second trip was for fruit to eat as dessert. They make money off of folks like me.

I don't believe the bolded part. I've been to Golden Corral before and people pile on the food, and most go back up for seconds. The majority definitely eat more when at a buffet than when eating a meal at home.

I have been to GC on several occasions. While I'm a self professed people watcher, I can't recall watching people and noting how many times they went back. I mean, I'm there to enjoy myself and be with family. In addition, how do you know they went up for themselves? I once went up 9 times to the buffet, but only once for myself.
Fair question, but really...the average family does not make a massive meal. They may snack a lot, but typically a family 1) can't afford it, 2) is too lazy to prepare it, and 3) doesn't have the space to cook a meal the size it would take to equal the amount of food they pile on their plate.
I'm sure that the reason why you notice how much people pile on their plate and return for seconds is because they are all skinny people, right?
