Col.3:17......And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. (baptism is both WORD and DEED)

But you just got through saying in a post last night that we could even baptize ourselves if need be. I gave you an example of a pastor who says nothing over people when he baptizes them. Rather he has THEM openly repent and confess Jesus as Lord and risen Savior. Then he dunks them. It goes something like this. He asks them in the water, "
Why do you want me to baptize you?". They reply, "
because I am confessing and forsaking my sins and I am confessing Jesus Christ as my Lord and risen Savior".
So, it would seem by your admonition last night that one could pronounce the name of Jesus over themselves and baptize themselves if need be, that the one being baptized in the manner I discuss here did just that, correct? If not, why?
I really wish you would respond in a little more detail on this and the other example I gave of the pastor who quotes
Romans 6:4 over his baptismal candidates.
The name of Jesus is spoken in both occasions, is it not? Yet it is not "
pronounced" in some ceremonial manner. are you implying that the words "name" and "baptize" must also be uttered?
Also, in reference to the examples I'm asking you to comment on here...In the first example, what if they are not actually standing in the water when they say "
I'm here to baptized because I'm confessing and forsaking my sins and confessing Jesus Christ as my Lord"? After saying that they then step into the baptistery and the pastor dunks them. Does it count?
Ditto for the second example. What if the pastor recites
Romans 6:4 using the name of Jesus in the quotation, the candidate steps into the tank, and the pastor dunks them? does that count?
Finally, what if I pronounce over someone, "
I baptize you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ" , we then walk a mile to a lake, they step into the water and I dunk them. Does that count?
These are not meant to be silly questions. I'd really like to know how you view such.
