Why? Probably the same reason you do it.
My thoughts on dragging out and through the past is that a person hasn't really grasped the reality of
Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
IMO, a person is, in effect, pointing fingers at God instead of reflecting on what has caused us to be strong in the power of His might, taken fear out of our hearts, given us maturity and wisdom - simply trials.
