One wonders why Muslims built a Mosque smack dab on a place they knew the Jewish temple was...
Islam, long before the crusades, was a conquering army not an "evangelic force"...

PO said largest country, then mumbled something about percent Muslim population.
Glad you were there to save PO from further embarrassment. Good save by the way.

She jumped on that like a starving beggar on a crust. Poster perfect example of why the letter to Timothy said what it said about who should teach and who should shup and listen.
Why is there a Mosque? They declared it a holy place and built a place of worship on it. There was nothing else there at the time.
History indicates:
Shortly before the Byzantines took the area back five years later in 615, the Persians gave control to the Christian population, who tore down the partially built Jewish Temple edifice and turned it into a garbage dump, which is what it was when the Caliph Omar took the city in the 630s.
A better question is why would christians tear down a partially rebuilt temple in 615 AD and turn the location into a garbage dump? Is it your long unbroken history of peace or history of tolerance?
