well, granted, but in this context? Christ, in the opening of the new dispensation, said this. Right after He--or His Apostles, at least--"profaned" it, legally speaking. So i guess "in effect" has been made subjective now, as it should be imo.

Who can argue that one day of rest in seven is a bad idea? How does the installation of the dispensation of Grace negate this? Legally, is how. There is ostensibly no moral aspect to the matter (although there ends up being, in a weird way)

i'm getting an image of a young child who does not want to go to bed. This is common in our culture--but i would argue that it is not normal, and a look at why this is prevalent for us is telling to me. Also, ignoring Saturday--or worse, to me, having the potus declare it "small business day," (the diametric opposite of "day of rest" to me) while there might still be "blue laws" in some areas prohibiting "work" in a sense on the first day of the week sinks to profanity, for me at least.

Far from a day of rest, Saturday has become one of our most hectic days, for many; or at least it was for me. It was even often manic, at least for me. I am sure that others have different experiences, maybe live more country, or have to work on Saturday, etc., so i am happy with the way things are; sans the blue laws. Saturday is an island of sanity for me now--and to anyone who does not feel they need a day of rest, whatever day that is, i have no quarrel. i cannot "prove" that the Sabbath is still made for man, and i am not interested in trying.

i won't even lie--i was initially attracted to it mostly because i am a contrarian, trying to do something different than the world does. It is very hard to rest on Saturday. It literally costs one certain friends. But it has brought many unseen benefits.

yes, i see even the definition of Sabbath is obscured now. i see day of fellowship, day of worship...lol. To each their own. i do not want to be judged, and would not judge on the matter. No matter how perfectly one obeys the Law, they cannot earn their way into heaven.

Luke 4:16
"and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,"

apparently Jesus had the custom of leaving his home and going into the Synagogue on the Sabbath. Was he the only one?

Why was there a crowd on the Sabbath listening to Jesus, when they were supposed to be at home?

Re: Sabbeth Keepers

Work may be done for six days, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest, a sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; it is a Sabbath to the LORD wherever you live."

(HCS version)

http://biblehub.com/leviticus/23-3.htm

Sabbath is for resting from work and also a "holy convocation" (KJV) or "sacred assembly".

Re: Sabbeth Keepers

Shazeep raised an interesting point. The sabbath was made for man. It seems to me that saying it is ever in force, despite what I see as plain contrary teaching to Colossians 2:17, sabbath keepers act like man was made for the sabbath. That's the only way it would always be in effect, imo.

Keptbytheword is right. The only thing law carried over was fornication, meat offered to idols and strangled food. (Even then, meat offered to idols wasn't in itself wrong if the person had no conscience of the idol.) That was the perfect place to say sabbath. And it didn't happen. No where does God say it was for more than israel after the cross or before.

Hebrews 4 clearly says its a shadow of the actual rest intended that comes with entrance in it the holiest now. Gal 4:10-11 says it most clear though.

Re: Sabbeth Keepers

Question.
HOW do you "keep" the sabbath? Are there any special things or rituals that you do or don't do as a sabbath keeper?

Re: Sabbeth Keepers

well, if you're asking me, i try to prep beforehand so that i may utterly relax for the day, and that's mostly it. I don't answer the phone much--but then i don't anyway! since cooking is not work to me, i might make a batch of brownies, say; but i wouldn't do the dishes. It's the one day i manage to get any reading done. Friday night has turned into quite the celebration, actually; i usually manage to find some uplifting documentary or something. I dislike ritual, so none for me.

No work. It's a day off the regular work we do (except feeding the animals and other necessary stuff). We use Friday as a preparation day, and we prepare food for the sabbath so nobody has to cook a big meal on the sabbath.

We welcome the sabbath on Friday evening. We have a meal (think equivalent of a sunday dinner) that usually includes bread and wine (Lord's Supper). We sing Psalm 95 and pray and give thanks to God for all his blessings then we eat.

We have church at noon on saturday, usually lasts about 3 or 4 hours (it includes the Lord's Supper/agape meal).

We "say goodbye" to the sabbath saturday evening with prayer and psalm 24 (which has always been identified with the first day of the week traditionally).

So we rest from our daily labours and we gather for a sacred assembly for prayer, worship, fellowship, teaching, etc.
