You have to feed them, you have to house them, you have to deworm them, make sure their water is clean, with apple cider vinegar added. You also have to change the hay in their nestings, and you have to clean the hen house every single morning. Plus killing varmints who try to attack them at night and break into the hen house.

Well, I popped in to see how the parboiled rice discussion was going, and I see it went from salt-n-vinegar chips to cats to poisoned cat food and now to chickens. Typical AFF style, lol!
I am currently in my second year of having chickens. They are quite a bit of work. But, I sure do love those eggs!
We are letting our hens free range, and they go to roost at night about 6 o'clock, and we close up shop when they do that.
Yeah, cleaning up the chicken poo is just not fun. But, fresh eggs just can't be beat, so..... we continue!
Do they ever... or anything soft and mushy, lol! I often feed them some sourdough starter mixed with old bread or leftover rice, and they gobble it up in seconds!
