Now suppose the entire world was on this 'Oh, please, don't wanna hear about the fear of traffic anymore, it makes people feel bad'. *I* would be inclined to wlk around town with full colour posters showing the horror of children being run over by rush hour traffic. I'd be telling everyone I knew 'you BETTER fear that traffic, buddy!'
Why?
Well, just because.
That is, just because the world on their self-esteem kick doesn't want to hear a vital truth of God, makes it all the more important to emphasize that vital truth of God. People who are looking for Sappy Santa Claus don't need to hear about how cute and cuddly sweet baby Jesus is, they need to hear (and FEEL) 'the terror of the Lord'.
Just as someone who has felt the terror of the Lord, and has lain awake at night in cold sweats knowing they aren't right with God and that God might require their soul of them that very night, and they aren't ready, because of all their horrific sins and abominable rebellion against the pure Holy Righteous JUDGE of all men, needs to hear how merciful, kind, compassionate, and loving that Holy God is, and how he has provided a way of escape.
