Well if one only feels the Spirit when music is present something is wrong. We had a problem with our last Apostolic Church where if you did not get up and shout or run or walk around the Church during one of their shouting songs "you must not have the Holy Ghost".

Now to me the songs were "ok" but nothing to make me get up shouting everywhere. But in this intensely prejudiced mindset if you dont rejoice as they do you dont really have the Spirit.

If Paul Washer had been there he would be using it as sermon fodder attacking Pentecostals to this day.

So Oneness Pentecostals like Baptist and Luthern Hymns. Old time country gospel. Choir type singing. Those are "acceptable" genres of music.

Re: IHOP - an eyewitness account

Just went into an Apostolic room on Patalk where they were playing music. The first song was an excellent one by Petra. The second a Chris Tomlin Contemporary worship song. The one that just came on is a "Reggae" type song. Sounds good so far.

Now they are playing a "Messianic" song. Pretty nice.

Oneness Pentecostals like all kinds of hymns and songs. I have found most of them prefer contemporary music and generally have abandoned hymns, at least the larger churches and those trying to get larger (ie going mainstream).

Personally, to me, if you REQUIRE a certain type of music or certain songs - or even music at all - to "shout" or otherwise express fervent worship and praise, something's missing. And it isn't the music...

BTW this isn't a bad song at all. Its essentially a Scripture song.

I could do without the light show, though...

Re: IHOP - an eyewitness account

I disagree with the lyrics of the Misty Edwards song, as they involve a strong charismatic error. God is not doing a new thing that wasn't already done in the book of Acts.

Yes you would disagree with Misty and with me. I see it the same way she does.

What is this new thing that God is doing today that He wasn't doing when the church began?
