I second that. Some of the best churches I've been in. The one's I've attended aren't afraid to make it plain either. LOL
One of the greatest sermons I've ever heard preached was in an independent black Apostolic church. It was my first meeting with them and the sermon title was, "Get that BUT out your mouth." LOL Let me tell you, that sermon was on fire. It was about having overcoming faith and never saying things like, "I know I need to be more faithful to God... BUT..." "I know I need to obey my husband... BUT..." "I know I should be faithful to my wife... BUT..." "I know God wants more for me... BUT..." "I know God called me... BUT..." There were to be no mor excuses. We were actually told to look at our neighbors and say, "Get that BUT out your mouth!" LOL! Many have said that such a title and catch phrase throughout the sermon is inappropriate. But let me tell you... it's been over 15 years since I heard that sermon and I'll never forget it. That older dark skinned pastor knew how to lay it down real clear, keep your attention, and the gleam in his eyes made you realize he knew he had you out of your comfort zone. He knew he had us cornered... and we enjoyed every moment of it... because his spirit inspired, exuded joyfulness, a little playfulness, and this tempered the seriousness of a lot of what he had to say. I loved it.
Yes, I second Jermyn's suggestion. Try EVERY Apostolic church. You might be pleasantly surprised as to where you feel the most welcome and where you feel the most straight up honesty about the Christian life.
God bless.
