Matter of fact money is italicised in verse 16 meaning they added it. Proving it was a weight just as stated.

atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
Here's the next verse after
Exodus 30:15. It also calls the half shekel money. It's crazy, I know. But do you think maybe that it really was money?
