Re: Poll: Church And Streaming Video
I told my wife when Carona virus first hit, that when it got to America churches would be put in an uncomfortable position. They would either refrain from internet services, while the flock looks for food elsewhere, or feel pressed to move away from their conviction. I know (most of our fellowship) A/O that still only use internet to look up something. They dont use social media, or partake in forums, no interaction strictly for searching purposes only. They have for several years now quietly suggested that those with cold symptoms stay home. So I will be surprised if they have services, there hasnt been any forced closings that I know of in Arkansas and Tn.
I would advocate that the preaching be done live stream, but I dont think this can be a replacement for a physical gathering. When I say temporary I think 3 or 4 weeks would be an extreme limit.
Can you imagine new comers to the faith, only knowing the church through live stream services. This is the very virtual relationships the tech age has brought to our chidren , that we feel so burdened to warn them about....its unnatural. Can you imagine how impersonal it would be for someone with a special need to communicate that need through a private msg, during the livestream. Some things are better handled in the present tense(laying on of hands). Also there is water baptism...then there is the rural problem with dependable internet connection, or slow internet, or affordability of some to have internet....I guess we could make it a "right"(internet access that is) gov. funded for the welfare class... but then couldnt the government outlaw certain content...
There may be times where internet can be a help, but never an alternative.
The shut in- what did the shutin do during the days of Jesus?
