The Taliban also engaged in unspeakable atrocities but those aspects of them are not what the comparison was about.

The Nazi reference that comes to mind for me is how "citizens" would inform on each other and stuff like that... and the "Hitler Youth" who were recruited but then encouraged that informing on their friends and families actually made them more patriotic, etc.
But I guess since we are prohibited by political correctness from ever comparing anything to Germany during that time, we aren't allowed to use any of the more obscure references either.
