You mean stuff like, "Can I get an Amen?"

I see it that Pentecostal Worship needs to become more like Charismatic worship. At least the Charismatic meetings I have been in. The "shockamoo" whatever has no basis in the New Testament.

It is an awesome thing when you feel the Lord in the emotion. Sad, when you can feel it forced and people intimidated into it.

I say, God is greater and can make someone repent, because their heart wants to, sitting in a pew.

If our walk, relationship and churches can't be that way, then we are just an emotional, lifeless mess of people.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Yes, because we hate when things get quiet on us. I believe people want to listen and feel after the Spirit to see "if these things be of God", but we aren't always allowed to have the time to do that.

What is funny is that rock and roll was made so that people could express themselves by shouting and dancing... and shockamoo is the exact same thing for a different purpose.

Well, I don't agree with the "Shockamoo" not having a place at all.

If you look up the word "Praise" it covers the whole gambit of meaning for everything we do in worship.

We have people coming in from Charismatic works and they are so, "Oh, aw, free spirit." There is not a lot of balance in their thinking or commitment. This is just what I have seen.

For instance, there is a very large Charismatic church in our area. My neighbor, who attends, saw me outside and came over to ask me about "tongues and interpretation".

She said, frequently, in this church tongues will go forth and they stop the service and will look at this woman and say, "Did you get something from that?"

Good grief!

I told her that they are either stuck in a rut as to what they are doing and probably don't understand how to operate in the Spirit. If you have to ask if you got something - you didn't get it.

I'm not against people expressing themselves in whatever way they feel they need to when God is moving so strongly in their heart. You can feel when it is the flesh and when it is God.

What I am opposed to is people being pressured from the pulpit to "do anything, even if it's wrong. Just do something."

Now, that is an exact quote from a service I attended.

Bad form! God is greater! We don't need that. We just need "vertical worship", which was discussed on another thread.

The problems is that emotional outbursts can be easily faked or immitated. When one's perceived spiritual level depends on emotional outbursts, this is more likely to happen. One can get caught up in the moment without regard to decentcy and order.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good shockamoo service! I just think God is more concerned how straight we walk once our feet touch the ground!

Amen, Pianoman! You hit the nail on the head when you said, "the spiritual level depends on it."

I know men that train young ministers to start learning to move in the Holy Ghost by praying for the women because they are more emotional and will usually respond.

Hmmmmmm. Ummmmmm. Ohhhhhhh. Get a gun!
