Couldn't help yourself...LOL

I did consider that in one of my earlier posts today...that this generation(meaning theolder generation of Bro. Strange)...has difficulty with music style in general...my example was the drums at GC and the Wedgeworth brothers.

I have been reading and thinking this very thing....

...still the "of another spirit" stuff goes over the line, IMHO.

This thought crossed my mind as well. I have a friend who was at this campmeeting and this person felt that there were no "strange spirits"...

This is an excerpt from post #729 of the thread in question about the generation gap:

Moses coming down the mountain heard strange music. He heard a strange sound. He knew something was wrong from the sound. Someone could have said, "Oh never mind, Moses, these young people have come up with their own sound. They ware worshipping the Lord in their own way and music."

Moses would have known better. He was right. The music was the sound of worship of an idol made of gold. Such sounds will always be different than that of divine consecreation music. The sound of the uncircucised should not be hard to recognize for those that have their ears and eyes turned toward heaven.

I am hearing the worship of an idol. While we have stood stoutly with our standards at the front door of the church, the enemy has slipped in through the back door and has erected an idol in our very midst, under our noses and we did not see it coming.

Keep dancing folks. Keep chanting folks. You are going to have more sommersaults in church. You will soon have a laughing spirit on you and who knows, some of you may be barking like a dog in church before it is all over. Weird spirits are creeping in and some of you people are so dead in slumber, you would not know a golden calf from a pillar of fire over the Tabernacle.

Nice going folks. Enter into the Temple of Wisdom. The devil has a lot of great wisdom for you all in the area of human reasoning

Are you guys really going to say that some of our songs aren't beat driven and written for the sole purpose to hype the crowd into a frenzy?

Are you really trying to say that many of our conferences and camps aren't just track meets and dance floors for the sole purpose of inflating ego and grandstanding?

We are so hypocritical here. We mock Catholics for their Gregorian chants but look at us. I firmly believe in exuberant worship directed unto the Lord but some of this is way out of hand. We are like the prophets of Baal flailing at ourselves in the hopes of getting God's attention. He doesn't work that way folks.

There is an old song we used to sing in Pentecost that identifies the trouble with manufactured emotion and praise. It is the standard for many "worship" songs in our movement. We think if we get loud enough or frenzied enough God will move.

The joy of the Lord is my strength.
The joy of the Lord is my strength.
The joy of the Lord is my strength.
The joy of the Lord is my strength.

If you want joy you must (insert word here such as clap, jump, stomp) for it.
If you want joy you must (insert word here such as clap, jump, stomp) for it.
If you want joy you must (insert word here such as clap, jump, stomp) for it.

6 To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever.

22 Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever.
23 Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever:

25 Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever.
26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

to worship you I live I live to worship you
To worship you I live
to worship you I live I live to worship you
To worship you I live

To worship you I live

To worship you I live
to worship you I live I live to worship you

Saying it was like the worship going on when Moses came off the mountian was even further over ther line....calling it "golden calf worship" is outragious...

for the most part, I grew up in a church where hymnals and old-school Pentecostal songs went the way of the dinosaur.... on a personal note, I'm a HUGE fan of modern worship music....

You're probably right.

There are some of the newer songs that I can't handle. (and I'm still a young 38 ) I just keep a pair of ear plugs in the side pocket of my Bible case-- When one of those songs is used in service, I pop in the ear plugs to lower the volume a little.
