Are you speaking to me?
I do not keep up with sports, and don't play golf.
Not really for any spiritual reasons, though.

Again, good post. I love sports myself but you defined very nicely why you don't want yourself or your family to participate.

An employer is totally different both in what they expect, and what they give in return, than a coach.

I think I could weed thru that.. but would respectfully disagree with you..
I think that we can maintain our loyalty to the kingom of God and still serve our Country....

I don't think it's much different.. I do find it interesting how perspective changes when money is involved...

His Kingdom first, and nothing more important. But don't raise your children to appreciate civil freedoms and liberties, cause without someone to stand and fight for them they will be lost.........

Many do.
But I maintain that a child of God is better served not being a part of something as demanding and all consuming of time, energy, and loyalty as the military.
I do not in any way believe it is impossible to serve God in the military; but I do know that you severely limit your abilities to obey God regarding where you go and how you minister when you join the military.
You have to go where Uncle Sam says, and are not able to follow God's call with liberty and freedom.
There are some careers and lifestyles that are less conducive to a relationship with God, and the military is one.
You can be stationed where there is no truth-preaching church, or any number of things.
I am not speaking in terms of heaven or hell, permissible or not permissible; I am speaking of the difference between what is acceptable and what is best.

Coaches teach an ideology and a philosophy that they expect you to follow in your thinking and attitude.
An employer wants you to do a day's work for a day's pay.
The Bible demands that a man work; sports is a personal choice.
Get you hoe and weed through whatever you like, btw.

This is where I disagree. I do feel that people will tend to give their coaches more loyalty then their boss, but this is wrong only insomuch that people should give their EMPLOYERS as much loyalty as they do their coaches.

Did you serve in the military?
Many people appreciate America who did not want to serve in the military.
If there were the reinstitution of the draft, I would expect my children to go if they were called, as I would have.
But if the choice is theirs, I feel it is wiser as a Christian not to put yourself in that environment.
