But there is one thing he does that totally turns me off--the way he pits the pew against the pulpit, and the way he disrespects elders.
That is absolutely wrong, and I don't appreciate it.

Good post.

Just attended an OP church. They had a man who was kicked out of the UPC for having an affair and he was the speaker at this church....I left and will probably never return.

Can we gets past the messenger and just listen to the message?
Many a saving message from God comes from the less than the headlining stellar orator...just ask Balaam...........

Do you feel that way about a musician or singer when they sing a song you have heard them sing before? The message in the song is good for you over and over and for everyone else as well but the truth in the message preached can only be for you, your son John, your wife and his wife... these four and no more?
I am of the opinion that there are messages that God gives for a specific people at a specific time and it is only for that people. I also believe God gives men messages that are for the body and should be preached everywhere that preacher goes to break the Bread of Life!

If you're referring to my above comment, a man can disqualify himself.

I'd rather hear what some classify as rude, crude and crass than to hear pansy, patty cake, ring around the rosey preaching that is so common among apostolics.
Some of you are truly amazing. Had you been around in John the Baptist's day or Peter's day, you would have wrote BOTH of them off for the same reasons you speak of regarding JA.
Both of them can easily be classified as rude, crude and crass.
You can't pass John the Baptist off by saying that "he had knowledge that we don't have", as was done with Jesus.
And you can't pass Peter off either when he extended no mercy to Ananias and Sapphira.
These guys were just plain people like you and I with the same access to information.

I believe both men you mentioned we found offensive because of the content and not their style. JA's style is the issue.

You would have to know JA the man to understand why he does this....
He has NO problem with wanting folks to think for them selves and stop being Pentecostal robots!
JUST because the "ELDERS" said it, does not mean its right!
And he has no bones about voicing that.
THAT is why he as popular as he is and THE most request camp speaker in our movement.

Style it is.
John the Baptist's style = Camel's hair attire, wilderness dwelling, a muddy river for baptisms and offended the local leadership in front of the common people with his words.
Peter's style = Impulsive, boastful, loud mouthed, quick tempered, argumentative and referred to as "Satan" by Jesus himself.
