Of course not. If someone tried, you'd spit on the toes of their freshly polished shoes. In a feminine way, of course.

LOL! Of course! Ha!

Truth is I have a "spitting" attitude sometimes. I really need to lose it!

I'd love to meet you Abigail.

Well, someday, when we visit Canada for our family vacation....

...which...could happen...I have ancestors from Canada (and France)...they moved to French Village, Missouri in the 1800's. Last names....Aubuchon, Carrow/Carron & the Bequettes. (maybe those are common?) I can't remember where they're from exactly...I'll have to look at my family tree file....

Caron is quite common and I'm sure that there are different forms of those surnames. Bequette might could be be Paquette. Lots of Paquettes in the Maritimes. Aubuchon might not be quite as common, but I'm sure the name exists amongst the Maritime French.

You need to come visit! It's so beautiful here in B.C. - and the Maritimes are especially beautiful in the Summer and Fall.

However, I don't believe it's like this everywhere...there are some good people in UPC that really do want to help people.
You're absolutely correct about the UPC. And don't worry about my "old wounds." Talking things out in a forum like this has actually been good for me. Many of the spots that used to be too tender to touch have healed (or grown calloused?) to the point that I don't jump like I used to when they're touched. I'm almost becoming reasonable again.

In our culture you can't really talk to anybody when things go wrong. We have these walls that we throw up to prevent "bad news" from getting around. The result often ends up being that the bad news gets around anyhow- and good people are often left hanging in bewildering circumstances.

Sometimes it's good just to be able to say, "You know it hurt a lot when that happened to me." All a person needs to hear in response is, "Of course! That kind of thing's gotta hurt." And then when you think about feeling sorry for yourself and you say, "Everybody's a wretch and I'll never be happy again..." It's important to have someone respond, "Now you've taken it too far. Sure it hurt, but if you let it, it does heal too."

A think a lot of people just fester in a hurtful condition because they never had anyone confirm their hurt. Because they never got the feedback of, "Yeah, that's gotta hurt..." they feel like they have to prove just how bad it was- and still is. And so, the healing never gets started.

I have never been disfellowshipped nor have I been set down or removed from the platform.

I have seen a songleader who was relieved of his duties because he started to wear a hairpiece.

I have seen some young men told they could not be on the platform playing music because they grew beards. (But for our Easter play the guys wore fake beards).

I've seen a young lady relieved of her position as piano/organ player because she cut her hair.

I've seen a woman told she could take no active part in the church because she divorced her husband and married another man. The second husband was OK because he was not saved when he married her and that church taught that "judgment begins at the house of God."

One young lady married an unsaved man, divorced him and married another unsaved man. When her mother talked to the pastor about what her daughter could do she was advised that her daughter could take no active part in the church but, "Just tell her to come to church and hope for the best."

I was a Sunday School teacher, spoke at youth meetings, filled in and taught for the pastor at times but I left a OP church because the pastor said in a Sunday night sermon "The Bible says that a man is supposed to be clean shaven."

Same here, but I have separated myself from quite a few in order to keep my sanity and dignity.

I was born and raised UPC and was blessed enough to never have been part of a church that either had to rightfully disfellowship somebody or, as many of the examples on this thread, did so wrongfully.

However when my wife and I left the UPC we experienced a degree of "shunning" much like the Amish practice.

I have also witnessed an extreme version of this "shunning" first hand by a member of that Oneness cult in the Waco or Temple, TX area that some one here have posted about visiting their Woodworking community.

Pastors, reasons would you ever disfellowship someone in your congregation?
There was quite a few who were by the UPC...and they will continue to do so to anyone teaching a preterist doctrine..that is sad they took the stand without really studying it out.
