Actually the language covers any device capable of receiving a broadcast or cable video signal. Each device must be "modified" so that it cannot receive said signal... although the definition of "modified" is interpreted very broadly.

31. No minister having a television in his or her home, shall be permitted to hold license or credentials with the United Pentecostal Church International. Furthermore, no United Pentecostal Church International minister shall be permitted to advertise or minister on television. This does not preclude unsolicited representatives of the news media covering functions.
32. The use of video must strictly be limited to those areas in which motion picture cameras and projectors are traditionally permitted to be used: namely, in taking of pictures of families, friends, and church activities and the viewing of educational, religious, and inspirational films that are consistent with wholesome Christian principles. Furthermore, we strongly oppose the viewing of all worldly motion pictures and video films that are shown commercially in theaters and on television for entertainment purposes. All video receivers must be altered so that they are not able to receive television channels.

Having read the rule...
You all realize that an internet connection = cable television now, right? You don't have to have any seperate hookups and you can't turn it off....
That rule bans the Internet, the people who run the org just aren't tech-savvy enough to realize it yet...

Yeah, I was surprised when I read the language in there myself several years ago... I agree that technically you can now receive television channels directly from your internet browser. The rule in the manual could be interpreted lots of different ways. If your "monitor" has RCA jacks on the back, then it is capable of receiving television channels from another device... and if your "monitor", VCR, DVD-R or computer has a coax connector, it most likely has a built in tuner.... there are some stations that broadcast strongly enough that you can pick them up without any antenna or cable system attached to the coax connector. Growing up, we used to stick a wire clothes hanger in the coax hole just so we could watch television...
Some people would say you have to have someone unsolder the tuner inside the device, others say that you just don't have to hook up an antenna... everyone does what is right in his own mind... it is a slippery slope.

but it isn't slippery with the Internet... You can't say "I just don't go to those sites"... They're sitting there waiting...
If the ban is what that says, then the Internet IS banned... but only because you can recieve TV channels through it...

Don't forget the newer mobile phones also... my wife can watch television channels on hers, albeit shorter clips... this fact was brought up at GC 2 years ago during the business meeting.

that, too...
So any cell phone made after, say, 2005 and the Internet are now banned, too!!!
We should just become amish and stop using all electrical devices!! YEAH!! THat's how we reach the world!! Let's just completely seclude ourselves off from them to the point where you can't join our churches without becoming a 100% outcast from society and completely leaving everything that was a part of your former life!! I love it, who's with me?!?!?!

I wouldn't be surprised if some of them didn't know...

Who's with you? The WORD.
Quote:
2 Corinthians 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

you can't reach people like that... it won't happen...
