You have to look at the whole picture. People believe what they believe and they have a right to do that. There was a time when I believed and thought like they do so I totally understand. Am I going to point the finger at them and put them on my blacklist because of the convictions and beliefs they hold? No! I love many of these people and I respect them too.
I was home this summer and attended every service of the UPC campmeeting. Nobody escorted me to the altar.

In fact, I have never received so many hugs and so much affirmation perhaps ever. It totally blew me away -- the kindness and love that was expressed to me.
I did have a district leader offer to escort me to my seat and parade me down the aisle and across the front of the church to do so. He said he'd be "proud" to take my arm and do that. LOL! Funny!
These attitudes (that you described) do not exist everywhere and sometimes our attitudes determine and affect the attitudes of others.
