Fleeing to the mountains and winding up in Pella was better than being left in Jerusalem to face Titus's brutal armies.

Millions in merchandising have been made by the creators of the "Left Behind" series. If you grew up in Pentecost, as I have, you can remember revivals, youth camps, and conferences, where altars were full of crying young people and the smell of brimstone was almost real. Perhaps an evangelist had screamed into a mike that the trumpet was about to sound and many were going to be left behind. Or you walked into an unexpectedly quiet house after school and panicked when Mom couldn't be found. Left behind! You missed the Rapture! You lived in fear of being left behind.
Perhaps it is time to take a new look at some old things. I'm not here to discuss Rapture, Pre- Mid- or Post, but to examin the scripture that was used to propagate the "left behind" doctrine. Are you sure you don't want to be left behind? Matthew 24:37-41 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
It is obvious, with some examination, that the ones "taken" are taken in judgment and that Noah was "left" behind. Whatever one believes about the "Rapture", you certainly, from this scripture, want to be left behind!
Raven
A teenager I know was trying to explain to me last week. One of his teachers brought up this scripture. I wasn't sure what he was trying to get at, but I think this is what it was. Looks interesting on the surface. I'll have to check it out.
Read MATT.24 in the context of Jesus talking to his disciples and their generation, and see what conclusions you draw looking at it from that perspective.Read Luke 21,Mark 13 with it.
Also read Matt.23 before you read Matt.24 for a bigger picture on the Olivet discourse.

i agree redcyn that the scripture you mention is being interpreted wrong by many people, no doubt, but there are a ton of reasons to preach and teach against drinking without misusing this passage, dt
a more appropriate, and correct, thing to preach against is drinking too much and knowing your limits...
if you can't handle alcohol, don't drink... if you can, make sure you only drink in moderatin (and if you can't keep it in moderation, don't drink)...
then you can be Biblically accurate and still, by and large, get your church members alcohol free...
Correct, Darcie, who was it that said there was nothing on this forum. Oh, Yeah, it was Poster Pastor.
How about Raven's post here, PP, can you think under that bridge??

Thanks to those who replied but it seems this post didn't generate much interest. In other words, don't confuse me with the facts! My objective was not to debate the various rapture theories but to show that the much held belief of being "left behind" can not be proven by the above quoted scripture.
Those "taken" are taken in judgment and those "left" inherited the Earth.
Amen. Some of us have been pointing that out for years.
The same idea is seen in Hebrews 12 where all that can be shaken will be shaken so that that which cannot be shaken MAY REMAIN!
Also, the tares are FIRST REMOVED so the wheat remains and is taken into the storehouses.
I want to be left behind.
Hebrews 12:27 KJV And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Hebrews 12:28 KJV Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
Matthew 13:30 KJV Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Raven
Oh, Bro. Raven, you done went and scratched where I itch! (At least in the figurative sense). This is a subject that I've wanted to discuss with someone for awhile. Theres a great, (but often overlooked) truth in the verses you posted.. Dan 7. Who is this "Ancient of Days"? Who is the one "like the son of man"? Whose kingdom will continue forever? When will the wicked be removed? What about Zech 14 when the Lord stands upon the Mount of Olives? What about the 1000 year reign with Christ and what happens afterward? What about the MANY verses which say the righteous will inherit the earth? Brother, we need to talk! This that you are alluding to is the Gospel of the KINGDOM.
