Probably from διάκω diakō (obsolete, to run on errands; compare G1377); an attendant, that is, (generally) a waiter (at table or in other menial duties); specifically a Christian teacher and pastor (technically a deacon or deaconess): - deacon, minister, servant.

Now this is how we know what kind of servant, deacon, attendant our dear Sister was. If you keep reading down to the next verse you will find the word prostatis which is means that the menial duties that she performed was that of one who ran errands .

G4368
προστάτις
prostatis
pros-tat'-is
Feminine of a derivative of G4291; a patroness, that is, assistant: - succourer.

Phebe was not a pastor as in teaching men, but an assistant to run errands, and that is exactly what she did in delivering the epistle to the Roman Church.

The Bible is clear on what teaching women were to perform.

Tit 2:1-5

"But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, TEACHERS of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."

I hope that cleared some things up for you.

In Jesus name

Why did you not highlight 'specifically a Christian teacher and pastor' in the definition above? And if she was running errands, please explain why Paul told MEN to help her in whatever she needed of them? Doesn't sound to me like she was running, but that those men were!

Otherwise Paul would have instructed her to do as those men instructed of her. Too bad you weren't there to tell him how to word that.
