Early in the mornings there are more UltraCon Amish on who only have phones in the shop or barn. The more liberal ones (mostly Mennonite) who have cell phone or house phones will use the speaker feature and it sounds like a radio talk show in their homes. LOL!

Sheesh. The men might learn something if they would shut-up and listen. That's probably what they're afraid of!!

We try to work on it each night at dinner.

That's cool. I'd love to listen. I think it's great you are teaching your girls. My grandmother's mother tongue is French. My mother grew up speaking French in her younger years. She can still understand it but can't speak it much. Me, I know a handful of words. It was not offered in school.

I must have missed something. Where are you finding these people "online"? Is there a url for it?

I really didn't find his interview to be inconsistent. I understood him to mean "not all Amish" have a real relationship with the Lord. I thought the interview was good. I understand how he could have both views at once. I wrote to him and asked for some info and if there is anything I can do for his organization.

I think you just missed it. Being excommunicated means you are not in right standing with the church and the ordinances you promised to uphold when you joined.
For the Amish the "ban" or "Shunning" is what follows after the excommunication. Once fellow members will cease doing business, eating, and for most practical purposes communicating with the errant one. In some cases the shunning is extended to the marriage bed.... no wonder it works so well for them!
The Old Order Mennonites do not offically practice the ban, or shunning.

I understood him to mean all. though he did not say it. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt - seeing that his motives appear good.
