Thanks for the concern! I had 3 vertebrae (C4/C5, C5/C6, & C6/C7) in my neck fused on November 1. I pushed to get back to full duty too early (10 days after surgery I was on the road again) and wound up being put back on full meds for another 4 weeks.

I am progressing better now but I had a rough two weeks.

Maybe PhilJones too...can't tell...he's awful cranky today.
Nothing like posting for effect.... and getting it!

Berkley,

My apologies for saddening you. I suppose I am kind of like the Resolution #4 group... I was really reacting to a culmination of questioning threads and yours just happened to be the one that pushed my cranky button all the way in.

I discovered a long time ago that if I am looking for something to be right... I can find a way for it to be right and if I am looking for something to be wrong I can do the same. Maybe it's just me but it seems that more are looking for what is wrong than what is right with Apostolic Pentecostalism and, surprise surprise, they are finding it.

Please forgive my crankiness and know that was not totally directed at you personally... well maybe a little with the comment about being afraid. My apologies!

I am hoping that everything I accomplished in the week after my early return (I exceeded my quota by 200%) will allow me to relax a great deal in December.

I do appreciate the well wishes.

What I have encountered before among OP's was a tendency to only quote a part of the passage - "Unless you believe I am He..." When pressed they always seemed to agree on the interpretation I gave above (and that you give).

Jesus was always conscious of "Another," the One Who had sent Him. This does not necessarily lead to a full blown Trinitarian (Binitarian) doctrine. The function of the "Other" and His relationship with Christ in eternity past is more complex than the human forms of "You" and "Me."
both trinis and Oneness will use this verse to show Jesus is the I AM, since the pronoun is not in the greek text

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

And, most "Oneness" believers that I have spoken with believe this [mis]interpretation.

Now, I am not a scholar, but I read, and had to re-read it again. I don't believe that our interpretation is correct. It now appears to me that the verse "...they understood not that he spake to them of the Father" is an explanation of the previous verse that reads "...he that sent me is true..." and "...I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him..."

Thus, the hearers of the words of Jesus did not understand that the "...he that sent me..." and "...those things wich I have heard of him..."
The "he" and the "him" that Jesus was speaking of is the Father.

That's my conclusion... I prolly lost you, and I know I never had some of you to begin with.

Blessings

Berk, I think you are correct. We have discussed this a few times before.

To me the very defininition of "Our Father which art in Heaven" precludes the notion that Jesus is making reference to the God-man Messiah (Himself). It rather speaks of God apart from, and outside of the incarnation.

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths

Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945
