Here is one for the books:

The pastor that married my wife and I had previously been a fairly successful UPC evangelist. During that time, he had a particular meeting where he was informed by the pastor (who had previously been burned by an evangelist) that he would be paid by the soul. Which, of course, was difficult as there were no visitors.

He was given a $20.00 bill and told to get out of town when the week was over.

It can go both ways.

So, then, should there be any aspiring evangelists out there, can any of the pastors here make suggestions on how they would go about scheduling?

Having seen firsthand the damage that can be done (by an evangelist coming and preaching who hasn't heard from the Lord first) to babies in the Lord... I can completely understand churches who are careful who they have preach.

Is what we call an Evangelist in modern day, what the Bible referred to as Evangelist? Someone who comes, preaches, leaves? Or was an Evangelist something a little different in Bible terms?
Can anyone answer this for me?

There is a reason for this malaise...

If I might offer a well considered opinion.

The church did not prepare properly for the revival. I do not believe that a church should enter willy-nilly into a revival for the sake of giving a friend a place to preach, because the pastor needs a break, because of a host of other reasons that might be offered.

There should be a hunger and a thirst instilled in the church by its leadership for more of God and His move. From there, earnest prayer should be offered up with fastings that God would send a heaven born revival. The church should earnestly pray and expect that God would send the right man to them with the right word.

Well in advance of the man's coming, the community should be put on notice of a man of God with a divine message from heaven fresh off the altar of prayer is coming to town and that many miracles, signs and wonders should be expected. Expectation should be built high as well as a spirit of unity prevailing among the people.

There is an old chinese proverb that says when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. This is true in the work of God.

jmho....

Did you preach in some of the same churches I did

What's so crazy about what I said is that some of my revivals last for a month.

First of all, rudeness is a chosen trait and for one to be rude is generally not an 'oops, I did it again' situation. However, I can see how you thought I was being rude when, in fact, I wasn't.

You answered an earlier question about not needing training as a minister and I sincerely thought you were joking with your reply. I simply don't know anybody that doesn't need some kind of training to help establish, enhance and solidify their ministry. There is a GREAT need for training Young Ministers as, generally, only those that have a solid foundation and good training find the open doors in the Aposotlic movement.

Hence, when you came out with your 'You don't need training' type of answer I absolutley, 100% thought you were simply pulling my chain (that's 'joking / blowing smoke / stretching your blanket' in laymen terms).

Thus, when you came into this thread and made your post I figured it was another post 'blowing smoke / joking / pulling our leg' because it looked like you were saying, "I just wait for a chance to take over that service and show them how anointed I really am!"

That, sir, is why I asked for clarification. It was simply hard to tell, in light of what I thought was joking earlier, if you were 'blowing smoke / joking / pulling our leg' again or not.

Your rudeness is noted. My apology is offered. Enjoy the forum!
How much training would a preacher need except for knowing the word of truth as everyone should, then let the Holy Ghost speak what he wants and as he has taught you.I started preaching with in a year after I was filled with the Holy Ghost. It was simple but some people make it so hard.I study subjects and then with no notes start preaching, the Holy Ghost brings to my rememberance what he taught me.Sometimes i touch on many subjects. The Holy Ghost knows what is needed in each persons life and to preach one subject you may only reach 10% of the peoples needs, that is bot God.Yes you greet people and maybe say a prayer to start and lay hands on people after preaching. You can learn all that in 5 min.,othere then that what is there to be trained in except the word ? Why would you think I was joking ? Don't you think the Holy Ghost does this with anointing, how can a man train people to do this, help establish, enhance and solidify their ministry ? The Holy Ghost always opened doors for me.I don't only preach in apostolic church assemblies,I converted a Church of Christ pastor one day and some members.Preaching is not just to the saved and in apostolic assemblies. Please tell me how was the apostles trained except in the word by Jesus ? The bottom line is the anointing can do everything and these day man try to do everything. Look though the scripture in Acts and the four gosples how the Holy Ghost worked and anointed preachers with power and athority. Thank you for your time.

I do not use anyone who just calls up or shows up that I don't know.

I ONLY use men that come with a reference from their pastor and from another pastors whom they have preached for.

I don't use anyone without knowing their background.

I think he is pretty stupid. If he left...he didn't get paid. In almost 15 years on the road EVERY pastor has waited till the last possible second to hand you a check.

I know you may not know me but I'm Evangelist (Insert name here) and I just wanted you to know that I'm in the area with some time off and wanted to know if I could come preach for you while I'm in the area?"

QUESTION: Do you let them come or do you generally turn them down?

QUESTION: What is your philosophy of dealing with those calling wanting to preach for you?

QUESTION: Have you ever been 'burned' by someone and wished you hadn't let them come?

This ought to be interesting and I'll hold my viewpoints for a little while to see what others think...

Let's hear your answers!
It makes me uncomfortable.
