It also says the putting on of apparel. Agape, I am conservative in my lifestyle and would probably be welcomed in your church as a member with few if any lifestyle changes. That said, the context of the scripture has to be considered. Piece parting of scripture to create a doctrine is scary for me. Is it the color gold that God does not like or is it the costly nature of the gold and the intent of the wearer that moves him to instruct us in this manner? Obviously God does not intend for us to run around nude... neither does he want us to adorn ourselves in COSTLY array or COSTLY gold for the purpose of flaunting our wealth or standing. Modesty is the word... for me that means I don't wear a wedding ring... gold, silver, platinum, junk metal, or otherwise. I do wear a quality Seiko watch (no gold) that could easily be replaced with a pocket watch. The thing is that being on time is important to me so my watch is not jewelery, even in the eyes of most conservative's.

What else does that scripture say? Post the Whole Hearted verse and then measure yourself against it. No subjective interpretations. Just interpret the exact wording of each phrase with the same method of interpretation used for wearing of gold.

I heard a tape of Pastor Ewing years ago about this subject. My wife and I took our rings off and never put them on again. I was preaching a revival in LA. years ago and the Lord told me to take off my watch. Now the watch was small but very nice and people would notice it. So was it the gold watch or was it because it looked so nice that it was a piece of jewelry?

I am not passing "right or wrong" judgment about the teaching. I am just asking those who use this phrase to be willing to apply the same exegesis to the entire passage.

BTW, Rev, I probably know you or you knew/know my family. I was raised in Oklahoma and my dad, Rev. Lynn Jones, pastored in Duncan prior to moving us to Louisiana where he pastored until retirement and death. Alvin Turner in Marlow, OK is my uncle and Sherri Nance is my first cousin.

Sis,

Thanks for the compliment.

I attend quite a few conservative functions and I enjoy them to the max because I am, for the most part, among like minded men. The only thing that has puzzled me is how the wives of the men who preach that wearing gold is a sin in any form or fashion get a pass for wearing Sable Stoles or Minks and other apparel that is costly by any man's standard of measurement.

I just like consistent application of principles and proper exegesis of scripture. Shame on me!

Yes, I know some of your family. Did your Dad take care of the cooking area at camp? I remember the name but we have been gone a long time. We knew David and Sherri very well and the Turners. My wife was a Michael.

There are no names to mention. Bro. Mangun believes holiness. The men that preach at BOTT believe holiness.

I agree.

The Mangun's are awesome people. We need more people like them in pentecost. IMHO there are only 2 types of people in pentecost. 1. Those who like the Mangun family. 2. Those who are jealous of the Mangun family.
