You guys are posting many of my favorite Oldies. ....In his day Jimmy Swaggart could really sing that song. I love that one, too. Thanks again.

She was indeed a powerful woman of God! Many many miracles, and many souls saved by her ministry.

I wish I could have know "Sis. Willie Johnson" from the comments I've read here over the years. Where was she from?...Is she still living? Tell me more about her. Do we need to start another thread or is there one already?

Oh she was Bro. Phil. I was just a kid but I have never forgotten her. You know really back then our church was predominatly white, but that lady sure was allowed by our wonderful pastor to come and hold revival. She could preach. And as bishop said many miracles and people filled with the Holy Ghost.

I do not know if there is a thread specifically devoted to Sis. Johnson or not, however she was from WV and in her final years attended Billie Cole's church in Charleston. (If my memory serves me right........she went home to be with the Lord in the early 80's)

Well I can only tell of my experience of her. I was just a kid. She was an evangelist that was of mixed race. She wore a white skirt and blouse and a beautiful black and white silk cape. She sang and preached and many people were healed, as was I. And also many came to the Lord through her ministry.
I don't know if she is still living I think she is probably gone on to be with Jesus. I am not sure how old she was then but this was back in the 60's. And I don't remember where she was from. Our church was Emmanuel UPC church in Dallas with Bro. Paul Hosch as pastor.

I remember Bishop Karl Smith of Columbus, OH with his unique style of talk/sing with their choir "In The Upper Room With Jesus" now that was some powerful singing!

I love that thought - vertical prayer and praise...It's not just singing about our troubles and trials but praising Him and telling Him our love for Him. Isn't much of the book of The Psalms about praising Him? Most of them are not about complaints or telling Him about what we need or WHINING - but it's about HIM and who HE is and about giving Him glory and magnifying His name. When we do that, the complaints and whining are overshadowed by His presence.

I love this chapter:

Psalm 51
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
